Nothing like this should happen to a vehicle that is only 2 years old!! I had a 7 year old van prior to this that didn't have any mechanical problems. I want to know if there is any kind of a recall on this. I called the dealer, which is 2 hours away, and left a message. We had them order the hose (which was $200!!) and it just came today but I haven't had it installed yet. We had a mechanic look at it and the hose is leaking. We started to smell the fluid when it would drip on to the exhaust. He couldn't find a leak anywhere, though. Then the noise started again and, when he looked, the level was below minimum. We added fluid and it was fine for a few weeks. A few weeks later he checked the power steering fluid and it was a little bit low. He thought it was just due to the cold weather and I always made sure that I let the vehicle warm up really good. By that time we were having below zero weather. This went on for a about a month before I asked my husband about it. As soon as it would warm up, the noise would stop. I have a 2012 Ford Edge and when the weather started to get really cold (we live in North central mn) I began to hear a whining noise when I would first start my vehicle. Please be proactive vs reactive and assure this issue is addressed for the people. I pray it is investigated and notice is shared before the potentials become a reality. As I research the causes it appears this issue is not isolated and has been occurring since 2008. I am thankful my 15 year old daughter was not driving when this happened and even more thankful that this sporadic activity did not result in a fatal or crippling crash with another individual. The vehicle is currently parked where it died a half hour away from my home. This was completely unexpected and occurred with no warning. The oil level is fine, the antifreeze is fine, it is not overheating and there were no signs or symptoms of an issue. *when starting the vehicle the engine did run however it sounded as it was "starved" or "mis-firing", there was heavy white smoke dispersing from the exhaust and when I would attempt to put it in drive it would die. After several attempts to restart the vehicle I had to find an alternate way home. Luckily I was able to make it out of the road. In the process of turning to the left from the stop the incident occurred. I had just passed a semi-truck on a small farm town black top road and came up on a stop sign. Today, May 31st 2019 on my way horne from work the vehicle lost steering and power. Takata recall I purchased my 2012 Ford Edge sel April 22, 2019.
